Son of former Super Eagles striker provisionally cap-tied to England after competitive debut for Young Lions

Wolverhampton Wanderers right-back Wesley Okoduwa has become provisionally cap-tied to England after featuring in all three matches played by the Young Lions during the 2027 European U19 Championship qualifiers in March, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

Prior to the first international break of 2026, the tri-national defender had already earned caps for England at U16, U17 and U18 levels.

Okoduwa made his competitive debut in England's Young Lions in a  4–1 victory over Bulgaria on March 25.

This appearance means that should he wish to switch allegiance to Nigeria or the United States in the future, he would require Fifa approval.

Born on May 12, 2008 in New York City, Okoduwa was raised in Wolverhampton, England.

He is the son of former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Okoduwa, who played a key role in Nigeria's silver medal position at the 2003 African Games, scoring against both South Africa and Senegal in the group stage.

While Emmanuel is keen for his son to represent Nigeria at senior level, Wesley is currently keeping his international options open.

Okoduwa is not the only son of a retired Nigerian international to be provisionally cap-tied to England, following in the footsteps of Landon Emenalo, son of 1994 World Cup star Michael Emenalo.

Like Wesley, Landon remains eligible to represent Nigeria and the United States, in addition to England.
