The Nigeria Football Federation once attempted to convince Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham to play for Nigeria, his father's country of origin instead of England where he was born.

However Abraham who spent last season on loan at promoted Aston Villa whom he helped to defeat Derby County in the promotion playoffs final on May 27 is still hopeful of being called up to the England squad - especially now that Callum Hudson-Odoi with Ghanaian descent has been capped by the Three Lions.

With Odion Ighalo now retired from international football after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, perhaps it is time the NFF revisited the Abraham Chase.

The present Super Eagles squad is a young one and one this writer feels that Abraham can do well with.

Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy, Callum Wilson, Marcus Rashford and even Daniel Sturridge will be ahead of Abraham in the pecking order for strikers to play for England.

Abraham's experience and kill set stand him in good stead and with Ighalo now retired from international football, only a few of the options to fill the big boots of the Shanghai Greenland Shenhua can match the talents of the Chelsea striker.

Abraham has elected to wear the number nine jersey at Chelsea - won by several top strikers like Fernando Torres, Hernan Crespo and Radamel Falcao to little effects - with only  Dutchman Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink arguably the only striker to have had a great career at Chelsea wearing the number nine jersey.

The legendary Didier Drogba was the custodian of jerseys number 15 and 11 respectively at Stamford Bridge.

Abraham and Ighalo have great hold  up plays which releases the fast wingers to wreck havoc on opposition defences, the Chelsea man is even taller and will also add aerial dominance to what he is capable of doing.

A stitch in time will save this 9 for Nigeria if only the NFF and the head coach reach out to Abraham and his family as soon as possible before the next international break.
