On Thursday, July 22, a friendly game between Chelsea and Drogheda
United in the Republic of Ireland was called off as a precaution due to a
possible positive COVID-19 case within the pre-season squad which the
Blues are investigating.
Following the
cancellation of the friendly, manager Thomas Tuchel split the squad into
two groups for an in-house training game of Chelsea versus Chelsea.
According to Chelsea's official website, the 45 minutes of the match, which ended 1-1, were split in two with no break apart from to change ends.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Super Eagles hopeful Ike Ugbo participated in the friendly staged at Carton House in Dublin.
The
22-year-old played for the Chelsea team that wore blue training bibs, a
side also containing Tammy Abraham, Ross Barkley and Callum
Hudson-Odoi.
Hudson-Odoi's sweet strike was cancelled out by a close-range finish from Armando Broja.
Champions
League winners Chelsea have lined up friendlies against Bournemouth,
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur before their first competitive game of the
new season against Villarreal on August 11.
