Super Eagles midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi finally made his debut for Marseille during their hard-fought 3-2 victory over Lyon in a thrilling French Ligue 1 encounter on Sunday.
The 22-year-old , who joined Marseille on deadline day during the winter transfer window from Zulte Waregem, was not called up for the last four games played by the 1993 European champions before the visit of Lyon.
Nnadi was brought on in the fourth minute of stoppage time, replacing former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood as Marseille sought to preserve their narrow lead in a tense closing stage of the match.
The match itself was a dramatic contest at the Stade Vélodrome, with Marseille fighting back twice before eventually securing victory through a late brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Lyon had taken an early lead through Corentin Tolisso, who finished clinically after receiving a clever pass from Endrick just three minutes into the game.
Marseille responded strongly in the second half, with Brazilian winger Igor Paixão scoring a spectacular curling effort to level the scoreline.
Lyon regained the advantage in the 76th minute when substitute Rémi Himbert finished calmly across goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli.
However, Marseille showed determination, responding quickly through Aubameyang, who converted Paixão’s cross to restore parity.
The Gabonese striker then completed his brace deep into stoppage time, tapping in Ethan Nwaneri’s assist to send the home supporters into celebration.
Nnadi’s late introduction marked an important milestone in his European career as he begins life in French football.
Although he had little time to influence proceedings, his debut represents a positive step in his integration into Marseille’s midfield setup.
