Super Eagles-eligible midfielder Ethan Nwaneri could face an uncertain future at Arsenal this summer as the North London club reportedly prepares for a financial review ahead of the next transfer window, according to the Telegraph.
The development comes despite the youngster’s highly promising breakthrough campaign last season, where he registered nine goals and two assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.
His impressive performances previously earned him a new long-term contract with Arsenal last summer amid strong interest from rivals Chelsea.
However, the teenager has struggled to maintain that momentum this season, prompting a loan move to Olympique de Marseille in search of regular playing time.
Nwaneri is considered alongside several first-team stars, including Gabriel Martinelli, Ben White, Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and highly rated academy prospect Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Nwaneri remains focused on gaining consistent minutes with Marseille to accelerate his development at the senior level.
The teenager, who has represented England at various youth levels, is also eligible to play for Nigeria through his heritage.
With Nwaneri yet to make his senior debut for England, the Nigeria Football Federation are reportedly monitoring his situation closely as they attempt to persuade him to commit his international future to the Nigeria national football team.
