Switzerland Looking To Cap-tie Okafor : FC Basel Super kid Eligible For Nigeria Gets First Senior Call-Up
FC Basel wonderkid Noah Okafor could end speculation about his international future as early as Wednesday, June 5.
Okafor has been handed a late invitation as replacement for Schalke 04's Breel Embolo, who withdrew from the roster due to a left foot injury.
The Swiss Football Association have confirmed that he is the first player born in 2000 to be invited to the senior national team.
The Binningen-born Okafor is considered one of the best talents in Switzerland and has made appearances for their U15, U17, U18 and U19 teams.
Should he appear in the match against Portugal at the Estádio Do Dragão (Porto), he would become cap-tied to Switzerland.
Last season, he played 29 games for FC Basel's first team and registered his name on the scoresheet four times, while providing three assists.
Okofar could follow in the footsteps of Manuel Akanji, Innocent Emeghara and Eseosa Aigbogun who were eligible to represent Nigeria before playing competitively for Switzerland senior teams.
