'Tank doesn't get broken' - Onyeka confirms he's fine, admits revenge was on Super Eagles mind

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has revealed that Nigeria approached their statement victory over Tunisia with a clear sense of purpose, as the team executed a well-prepared game plan to secure all three points and progress to the next round.

Speaking after the match, Onyeka said the players were determined to make a statement, especially after their previous disappointment against the North African side in 2019.

“Yes it was like we had to give them to know what happened in Cameroon. We are up for it,” he told reporters in the mixed zone.

“We came out really strong and we are happy that we got the three points.”

Nigeria raced into a commanding 3–0 lead before allowing the Carthage Eagles to reduce the deficit to 3-2 in the final 15 minutes of the game.

Reflecting on the late collapse, Onyeka admitted the team still has areas to improve, particularly after conceding two goals towards the end of the match.

“Of course, I mean 3-0 ahead and we allowed two easy goals is not good. I think it is something that we need to work on in training so we can get better,” he added.

The Brentford midfielder praised the tactical approach of the Super Eagles, highlighting how their high press disrupted Tunisia’s rhythm and proved decisive.

“The game plan worked really well. We are glad and happy that we are through to the next round,” Onyeka explained.

“I think our game plan worked really well. The way we press them high it didn't give them any chance to play, so that's what made the difference.”

Onyeka also dismissed suggestions that the atmosphere or opposition fans affected the team’s performance, stressing his personal commitment whenever he features for the national side.

“Not really, the fans don't shake us. I mean it is always the same every time I come into the team, I also want to give what I can give to the team to help the team offensively and defensively,” he noted.

Ahead of the clash against Uganda, Onyeka confirmed his fitness and made it clear that Nigeria will not change their approach as the competition progresses.

“No just a little twist but it is okay. Tank doesn't get broken. Tank is always on point.”

“We are still going to play the same way we played today. We are not going to drop, you know keep going and take every game at a time,” he concluded.

Although Nigeria have secured qualification for the knockout phase with the victory, the Super Eagles must avoid defeat against Uganda to finish top of Group C.
