'They seem very strong' - Tanzania coach explains why Super Eagles are the best team at Afcon 2025

Miguel Ángel Gamondi, coach of Tanzania, believes the Super Eagles are the standout team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria are the only side to have won all their matches in the tournament, recording victories over Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda in the group stage, before defeating Mozambique and Algeria in the knockout rounds.

The Super Eagles have scored 14 goals, more than any other team in the competition, and have also tightened their defence, keeping consecutive clean sheets in the knockout stage.

Gamondi described the Super Eagles as the most influential team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, pointing to their balance, consistency and attacking quality as key reasons for their dominance.

The Argentine tactician noted that the last four teams left in the competition fully deserve their place, stressing that only the finest margins now separate success from failure.

Speaking to Egyptian broadcaster On Sport, Gamondi said: "It's very clear that the semi-finals bring together the four best teams, and the opportunity is there for all four. I think that at this stage of the competition, everything comes down to the small details and the quality of the players present."

The 59-year-old singled out Nigeria for special praise, highlighting their ability to control games at both ends of the pitch.

"Each of the four teams has a player capable of making the difference in a single play. Currently, I see Nigeria as the most influential team because they score a lot of goals and don't concede many. They seem very strong, but as I said, I consider these to be the four strongest teams in Africa right now."

Nigeria opened their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania, courtesy of Ademola Lookman's winning goal in the 52nd minute.
