Paris FC and Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has played down concerns over an on-field incident involving Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen, insisting the Nigerian team remains united ahead of Saturday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final clash against Algeria.
Simon addressed the issue while speaking at the pre-match press conference, following Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16, a match in which Lookman and Osimhen were both involved in a moment that drew attention during the game.
Reacting to the incident, the winger stressed that teamwork and unity remain the core values within the Super Eagles camp.
“But first it’s a team play. We are all team and of course we are united as you can see before they score someone give them the ball to score. So and of course I feel happy for them,” Simon said.
He further highlighted the collective responsibility of the squad and the importance of playing for one another, regardless of individual status or recognition.
“For me, I would say yes, of course, we play for them. because they’re two of Africa's best players, the last one, they won it, which of course we are working all together as a team, as a coach also for a goal,” he stated.
Simon also made it clear that individual comparisons are not a priority within the team as the Super Eagles focus on their overall objective at the tournament.
“So there’s no time for who is the best and who is not the best. The most important thing, the teams are the best. We all are the best. We just want to win,” he added.
Nigeria, three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions, have recorded victories in all their matches so far at the ongoing tournament in Morocco.
The Super Eagles will be aiming to sustain their perfect run when they face Algeria on Saturday, with a place in the semi-final at stake.
