Tijani Babangida : Ajax Was Supposed To Sign Moses Daddy - Ajala Simon

Last week, Ajax Amsterdam officially announced that it will not offer a contract to Nigeria Under 20 international Moses Daddy - Ajala Simon despite the player signing a preliminary contract with the Dutch club back in May.

There had been suggestions that former Ajax winger and retired Nigeria international Tijani Babangida introduced Simon to the four - time European champions.

Now, Babangida, 39 , has distanced himself from those reports, but admitted that he gave positive recommendations on the player when inquiries were made from Holland.

'' A journalist that works for Ajax Amsterdam did call to ask me about Moses Simon. , what I think of him.

'' Of course I had to reply positively about him even though to be honest I knew very little about this player.

'' Very few teams play with wingers these days. It's part of the Ajax philosophy. So any information about any winger, they will like to crosscheck it.

'' Since the player was in the squad to the Under 20 World Cup, Ajax was supposed to sign him, not to invite him for trials.

'' Maybe they just wanted to see if he can fit into their system of play as they were not prepared to wait for him to come of age

'' If I see any player that will fit into Ajax, the doors are always open for me to tell them. But I am not involved in transfers,'' says Babangida to allnigeriasoccer.com.

The Taraba United chairman repeatedly stated that he had no hand in the movement of Nigerian players - Ahmed Musa, Michael Uchebo, Uche Nowfor and Alex Emenike - to Holland, specifically VVV Venlo, whom he represented from 1991 - 93.

'' Not at all. I did not play any part in the transfers of those players,'' Babangida said.

Meanwhile, Moses Daddy - Ajala Simon returned to Nigeria on Thursday morning, 24 hours after it was revealed that he did not bag a contract with Ajax Amsterdam.
