'Alebiosu came off' - Blackburn coach confirms Super Eagles RB got injured in a collision

Blackburn Rovers manager Michael O’Neill has offered an update on the condition of Nigerian international right-back Ryan Alebiosu following his early substitution in the club’s 3-0 defeat to Southampton on Tuesday.

The defender was forced off after sustaining a knock at St Mary’s Stadium in a match that further deepened Rovers’ injury concerns.

Alebiosu, who was replaced after the restart by Japanese defender Ryoya Morishita, is believed to have picked up the injury after being on the receiving end of several heavy challenges.

Speaking to Lancashire Telegraph, O’Neill confirmed the substitution was precautionary but admitted the club is still awaiting a full medical assessment.

“Alebiosu came off as well, we had to take him out,” O'Neill revealed. “We will have to wait and see. I don't have any medical news I can give you.”

The Northern Irish coach further explained that the defender is dealing with discomfort around his ribs and back following a collision.

"Ryan got injured in a collision. He was struggling with his ribs and his back. We've just got to see.”

Alebiosu’s setback will be a major concern for O’Neill, who is already dealing with injury problems to key players Todd Cantwell (adductor) and Adam Forshaw (calf).

The former Arsenal defender has been a valuable presence for the Rovers this season, contributing one goal and four assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.

With just four games left in the campaign, O’Neill will be hoping the injury proves to be minor and that Alebiosu can return swiftly to help the club in their fight against relegation to League One.
