Former Nigeria and Ajax Amsterdam star Tijani Babangida has stressed that a clause must be included in the contract of the incoming Super Eagles coach, stipulating that the foreigner must live in Nigeria.
Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick has made it clear that there is no going back in hiring a foreign coach for the senior national team, with a homegrown coach Augustine Eguavoen failing to qualify the national team for the 2022 World Cup despite all the support he received from the Ministry of Sports and NFF.
Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr spent most of his time in France, arguing that most of his players, if not all, were based abroad and wanted to keep tabs on the players in Europe.
And as a result of that, the Franco-German neglected home-based players in the Nigerian Professional Football League when naming his squads.
It is common knowledge that the Ministry of Sports and Nigerian Federation are canvassing for the injection of more home-based players in future Super Eagles squad.
Speaking to reporters, including allnigeriasoccer.com on Wednesday, Babangida said : "At this moment they've already made up their mind to bring a foreign coach.
"It should be in his contract that he must stay in Nigeria and watch games in the Nigeria Professional Football League".
Enyimba goalkeeper John Noble, the only local player named in the Super Eagles squad for the March internationals, did not taste action in both matches against Ghana as Francis Uzoho and Daniel Akpeyi were ahead of him in Eguavoen's pecking order of goalkeepers.
