'We all know his quality' - Felix Agu happy to see Victor Boniface back at Werder Bremen

Nigerian full-back Felix Agu has lauded Super Eagles teammate Victor Boniface as the striker begins his return from injury, emphasizing the player’s undeniable talent despite a prolonged absence from competitive football.

Boniface has faced a challenging 2025–26 season after suffering a serious knee injury that required surgery in January.

The setback threatened to sideline him for the remainder of the campaign, leaving Bremen and their fans uncertain about his immediate availability.

After several months away from the pitch, Boniface has recently resumed training, with the club carefully managing his reintegration to prevent any recurrence of the injury.

Agu, who has been a reliable figure for Bremen this season, expressed his pleasure at seeing Boniface back in the first-team environment.

“I’m very happy to see him back here because I get along well with him,” Agu told Deichstube.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Agu noted that Boniface will need time to regain peak form. “I think he still needs a little time to get back into his rhythm,” he said.

Despite these hurdles, Agu was emphatic about the striker’s intrinsic quality. “But we all know his quality,” he stated.

“He may have only shown glimpses of it in matches, but you see it again and again in training. When he drops deep, turns, plays passes – with such timing, such vision! That’s simply an absolute quality!”

Agu also pointed to Boniface’s proven track record, recalling his contributions to Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga-winning side prior to his loan move. “He wasn’t a key player in Leverkusen’s championship-winning team for nothing,” he added.

Looking forward, Agu offered cautious optimism about Boniface’s potential impact this season.

“If Victor can even come close to that level, then he can help us,” he said, while noting that the extent of his contribution this campaign remains uncertain.

“The important thing is that he gets back to the fitness level he needed to be able to help us on the pitch for a while.”

Boniface’s return arrives at a critical stage for Werder Bremen, who have struggled for consistency and are seeking a strong finish in the Bundesliga.

With careful management and time to fully reintegrate, the former Leverkusen standout could yet provide valuable minutes in the closing stages of the season.
