'We are ready for anything' - Chukwueze reveals Super Eagles practised penalties ahead of Mambas clash

Samuel Chukwueze was one of three Super Eagles players chosen to field questions from the media on Sunday, alongside his Fulham teammate Calvin Bassey and Olympiakos left-back Bruno Onyemaechi.

With the exception of the five-goal thriller against Tunisia, Chukwueze featured in all of the Super Eagles' group-stage matches at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with his standout performance coming against Uganda, where he provided two assists in a 3-1 victory.

The 26-year-old revealed that the Super Eagles have been preparing intensively ahead of their crucial clash with Mozambique, including practising penalties in every training session.

"We are getting ready for it. As you can see, the players and the coaches are ready to give everything tomorrow,” Chukwueze told reporters in Morocco.

"Mozambique is a good side. Everybody, from the starters to those on the bench, is ready to give everything when called upon."

Eric Chelle's side recorded nine points during the group stage of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, scoring eight goals shared among six different players.

Asked about the reason behind the Super Eagles’ fine form and their 100 percent record, Chukwueze said: "At this moment, I am just being myself and trying to enjoy what I love to do most. When you feel comfortable, you have people around you who push and motivate you to laugh and forget everything about life."

On whether the team has been practising penalties, he confirmed: "We have been practising penalties in every training session. This time, we are ready for anything."

Chukwueze also spoke about his impression of the Mozambique national team.

"They are a good team, not a small team in Africa. We have to give them the respect they deserve, and they have fantastic players who play in some of the big clubs.

"We have to face them the way they are going to face us. We have to give everything as if it is the final."

Since their debut in the competition, the Super Eagles have been involved in eight Africa Cup of Nations penalty shoot-outs, winning six and losing two.
