Trabzonspor head coach Fatih Tekke expressed concern over the injury to Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu ahead of the club’s crucial Turkish Super Lig clash against Alanyaspor, describing the setback as a significant challenge during a decisive phase of the season.
Onuachu was ruled out of the match after suffering a muscle-related injury during a training session on Friday.
The striker experienced discomfort in his upper thigh, prompting the club’s medical team to withdraw him from the squad as a precaution.
He has since begun rehabilitation, with Trabzonspor closely monitoring his condition as they assess the extent of the setback.
The Super Eagles forward has been one of Trabzonspor’s standout performers this season, scoring 22 goals in the Turkish Super Lig.
His physical presence, aerial dominance, and consistent finishing have made him a key reference point in the final third and a major reason behind the club’s competitive push this campaign.
Speaking ahead of kickoff , Tekke admitted that the timing of the injury had added to a difficult week for the squad and stressed the importance of maintaining focus amid setbacks.
He said, as quoted by Halk TV: “This is one of the toughest matches of the recent period. Onuachu's injury yesterday saddened us. We've had a week full of unexpected things.”
The Trabzonspor coach also highlighted the importance of the remaining fixtures as the season approaches its final stretch, insisting that his side must respond strongly under pressure.
He added:“I said it's the toughest of the six matches; we need to win these games. It's not an easy match. I think we've worked hard. Hopefully, we'll get a deserved victory today.”
Onuachu’s absence is seen as a major blow for Trabzonspor, who will now look for alternative attacking solutions as they continue their push in the league.
Medical staff remain cautious, with no confirmed timeline yet for his return to full action.
