Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer has advised Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo not to make a hasty decision to leave the club, with his contract set to expire in the summer.
The Academy graduate put in a Man of the Match performance as Charlton earned a 2-1 win over Portsmouth in the League One on Saturday, scoring in the 41st minute as the Addicks extended their unbeaten run at The Valley to 12 games.
Aribo was heavily linked with a switch to the German Bundesliga in the January transfer window but a knee injury he suffered scuppered the proposed move.
''There’s no rush, your career is not a sprint. He’ll have a 14, 15-year career, which is a long time, don’t go rushing into anything and ruin it,'' Bowyer was quoted as saying by News Shopper.
''He could go somewhere and end up back in League One after watching football for two years. It has to be the right place for his own good.
''He has to be playing, whether that’s here, or wherever he goes, it has to be right, I’m honest with him and he trusts me. We want to keep him here, and hopefully we will.''
The 22-year-old Aribo joined Charlton Athletic in 2015 and has played 84 first-team games, with 12 goals to his name.
