Nigeria Captain Ends Worst-Ever Goal Drought Since Moving To Barcelona
Super Falcons captain Asisat Oshoala was on target as Barcelona registered a 3-1 win against Granadilla Tenerife at the Estadi Johan Cruyff (Sant Joan Despí) on Saturday afternoon, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
And in doing so, the former Arsenal and Liverpool striker ended her worst-ever goal drought since joining Barcelona in January 2019.
Oshoala had not netted in four successive Primera División Femenina matches against Levante, Deportivo de La Coruña, Valencia and Real Betis prior to yesterday's encounter.
Her previous worst-ever barren run was when she didn't get on the scoresheet in three games in a row against Tacon, Juventus and Rayo Vallecano, between September 7-15 this year.
Seventeen minutes into the contest against Granadilla Tenerife, Oshoala slotted into an empty net after receiving a pass from the unselfish Marta Torrejón, who could have opted to shoot instead of laying the ball on a plate for the Nigerian.
The 25-year-old has now scored 8 goals in 12 league matches, not a bad goalscoring return, having netted in five consecutive matches earlier in the season.
Oshoala and her teammates will resume the league when they visit Athletic Club on January 5, 2020.
