The 28-year-old Soares who joined the Saints in 2015 will wear the number 17 jersey which some of Arsenal's best players in history have put on.
The official website of Arsenal had on Thursday accidentally revealed the jersey number assigned to the other Arsenal signing - Pablo Mari - Mikel Arteta's first signing as head coach.
Soares joins Nigeria international Alex Iwobi, and other greats like Edu (currently Arsenal's Technical Director), Emmanuel Petit, Alexis Sanchez, Alex Song and Nacho Monreal to have put on the jersey number at the north London club.
Hale End Academy product Iwobi was allocated the number 45 jersey before switching to 17 during the 2016-2017 season.
While Mari may be thrown into the deep end on Sunday when Arsenal visit Turf Moore to play Burnley, Soares is currently injured and is not expected to return to training until mid February.
