Premier League giants Manchester United have announced through their official website that transfer deadline day signing Odion Ighalo has been allocated the number 25 kit for the duration of his loan spell at the club, which confirms an exclusive report by allnigeriasoccer.com on Monday.
The lifelong Manchester United fan has used this shirt number before, during the 2012-2013 season whilst playing on loan at Spanish club Granada from Udinese.
The number 25 jersey is an iconic squad number in Ighalo's homeland Nigeria, made popular by former Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu.
The numbers 7, 11, 19, 25, 27 and 30 were among the available digits but the former Watford star picked the number 25 in honour of one of the most celebrated Nigerian footballers in history, Kanu.
Manchester United's number 25 jersey was vacant following the departure of club legend Antonio Valencia from Old Trafford in the summer of 2019.
Ighalo was the Super Eagles number 9 before he called time on his international career after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where he won the Golden Boot award.
