One-cap Nigeria international Josh Maja opened his goalscoring account for the 2020-2021 season to help Bordeaux register an impressive 2-0 road win against Angers SCO on Sunday afternoon, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
In the 25th minute, the former Sunderland striker scored with an improvised finish from close range after the Angers defence failed to deal with Laurent Koscienlny's header.
It was the first goal scored by Bordeaux in the new season after they were held to a goalless stalemate by Nantes on the opening day.
The visitors led 2-0 at the break with Toma Basic doubling the advantage after he was set up by Hwang Ui-jo.
For the second game running, Maja was substituted in the second half as he made way for Jimmy Briand on 66 minutes, while fellow Nigeria international Samuel Kalu subbed in with 12 minutes left on the clock.
In their first game after the international break, Bordeaux will host Olympique Lyonnais at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique.
