Aston Villa on brink of deal for exciting West Brom youngster of Nigerian descent

Aston Villa are reportedly on the verge of confirming the signing of Nigeria-eligible teenager Tim Iroegbunam.

The Birmingham Mail claims that Aston Villa are set to sign the highly-rated youngster from the Baggies.

Iroegbunam is technically a free agent as of last Thursday but West Brom would be due compensation as he was offered a new contract and is an U24 player.

On Monday, the midfielder posted to Instagram a video of his best highlights as a West Brom player and the caption read, 'The best is yet to come', giving false hopes to the Baggies supporters as his departure from the club is imminent.

The promising teenager would have signed his first professional contract if he accepted the offer from West Brom.

Aston Villa's Head of Academy Mark Harrison knows all about the potential of  Iroegbunam, having previously worked with him at West Brom.

On the final day of the Premier League season, Sam Allardyce named Iroegbunam in the matchday squad against Leeds United but he was a non-playing substitute.

The Anglo-Nigerian, who joined West Brom at U8 level, was named the Academy Player of the Season for 2020-2021.
