English Premier League new boys Watford have joined the race to sign Abdul Abdulmalik, the cousin of Chelsea wonderkid Faustino Anjorin, according to reports. The Daily Mail says the Hornets are running the rule over the England youth international with a view to offering him a contract.
Abdulmalik is currently a free agent after turning down a new deal at Millwall but the Lions would be due compensation should he sign elsewhere.
The 18-year-old has been linked with possible moves to Arsenal and their next pre-season opponents Glasgow Rangers, with the two clubs watching him last season.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth have withdrawn from the race to sign Abdulmalik after training with the League One club for a couple of weeks.
The Anglo-Nigerian was a key member of the Millwall U18s side that claimed the Professional Development League title and reached the quarterfinals of the FA Youth Cup in 2019-2020.
Watford have bolstered their ranks with the signings of Stoke City loanee Oghenekaro Etebo, Emmanuel Dennis and Dapo Mebude this summer, while Isaac Success, William Troost-Ekong, Tom Dele-Bashiru and Joseph Hungbo are currently on the books of the club.
