Nigerian trio shine as Zambia star announces his arrival as a Rangers player in big win vs Motherwell

Scottish Premiership champions Glasgow Rangers came from a goal down to register an emphatic 6-1 road win over Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday afternoon.

Leon Balogun and Calvin Bassey were part of a four-man defence selected by manager of the Light Blues, Steven Gerrard, while Joe Aribo started as winger for this one.

Despite the three Nigerian stars putting in an impressive shift, the day obviously belonged to Zambia international Fashion Sakala, the summer signing from Oostende.

Rangers conceded first as Bevis Mugabi tucked home the rebound from a tight angle to open the scoring after Allan McGregor made a fine save in the 13th minute.

In the 32nd minute, Aribo saw his shot from close range blocked by Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly.

James Tavernier smashed a volley in to equalise for Rangers after he was teed up by Bassey in the 43rd minute and Sakala, who was given a rare start by Gerrard, made it 2-1 just before halftime.

Sakala got his second of the afternoon in the 63rd minute before a rare goal from Glen Kamara made it 4-1.

The Zambian got his hat-trick and the match ball when he slotted home at the far post after meeting a ball from Steven Davies at minute 86 and Kemar Roofe got in on the act in stoppage time.

Rangers big win - their eighth from twelve league games - moves them four points clear at the top of the Premiership standings.
