Joe Aribo's participation in Rangers' Scottish Premiership match versus Livingston on Wednesday will be determined only after a fitness test.
The Super Eagles number 10 started and was in action for 88 minutes as Nigeria suffered a shock 1-0 loss to Tunisia to exit the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in the round of sixteen on Sunday.
Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst admitted that it would be a welcome boost to have Aribo back in the squad but sympathized with the player over Nigeria's elimination from the tournament.
Aribo was in outstanding form for the Light Blues before international duty with the Super Eagles, scoring three goals in seven league matches since the Dutchman took over the managerial reins from Steven Gerrard.
Speaking to reporters at Tuesday's press conference, Van Bronckhorst said : "For me, it’s good to have Joe back. For himself, it's not been a good result at the weekend so it's bad for Joe that he couldn't play on in the tournament.
"He's traveling back from Nigeria today so will be back in Glasgow tonight so we have to assess him if it’s smart for him to be in the squad tomorrow but he will for sure be available from the weekend and of course after."
The 25-year-old started three of the four matches Nigeria contested at the AFCON in Cameroon and bagged his first assist for the national team when he set up Kelechi Iheanacho's game-winning goal against Egypt two weeks ago.
