Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare opened his goal account for the season, but Racing Genk suffered a 2-1 defeat to Standard Liege at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne on Sunday.
Arokodare, who started the game on the bench, was introduced in the 67th minute for Jarne Steuckers and made an immediate impact, scoring just three minutes later.
The 24-year-old Nigerian latched onto a precise pass from South Korean forward Oh Hyeon-gyu to halve the deficit, with the hosts leading 2-0 prior to his strike.
Despite finishing as Genk’s top scorer last season, Arokodare has yet to start a match this campaign amid ongoing transfer speculation.
Oh has been preferred in the starting XI, with Arokodare restricted to substitute appearances.
The forward has been linked with summer moves to Premier League sides Fulham and Burnley, as well as Serie A giants AC Milan.
With just under three weeks left in the transfer window, uncertainty over his future is expected to intensify, especially after his latest performance.
Arokodare will be keen to resolve his club situation soon in order to maintain form ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in September.
