Real Sociedad manager Sergio Francisco has provided clarity on the uncertainty surrounding Nigerian forward Umar Sadiq, insisting that while the striker is involved in transfer discussions, he has not been completely ruled out of the club’s plans.
Speaking after his side’s clash with Valencia CF at Mestalla, Francisco admitted that the future of the 28-year-old remains unresolved.
"Sadiq is in open talks, there are all kinds of conversations, but that doesn’t mean he’s not in the plans.
"I wouldn’t say for sure whether he’s leaving or staying,†the coach explained, as quoted by ElDesmarque.
Sadiq’s absence from Real Sociedad’s opening La Liga squad raised questions about his role this season, particularly after the Kaduna-born striker was left without an official squad number.
Francisco, however, downplayed suggestions that this meant his departure was inevitable.
"There are five players who don’t have a number because they have pending negotiations; at the end of the transfer window, we’ll see how we distribute them," he stated.
Despite persistent interest from Valencia, who are keen on securing Sadiq on loan, Francisco made it clear that Real Sociedad’s stance is not set in stone.
He left the door open for both continuity and an exit, reflecting the delicate balancing act of the market.
Sadiq, who has a contract with Real Sociedad until 2028, scored six goals in 19 appearances during his loan spell at Valencia last season.
