Super Lig champions Galatasaray are still awaiting the arrival of star forward Victor Osimhen in Istanbul after the Nigerian striker sustained a hamstring injury during the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff clash against DR Congo on Sunday night.
Osimhen picked up the injury in the first half at the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium and was substituted at halftime, with Akor Adams coming on in his place.
His absence was strongly felt as the Leopards took control of the game, eventually defeating Nigeria 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The victory secured DR Congo's place in the intercontinental playoffs for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while Nigeria failed to qualify for the second consecutive global tournament, a first since the nation’s World Cup debut in 1994.
According to reports from Sports Digitale, Osimhen is expected to arrive in Istanbul on Sunday, where Galatasaray’s medical team will conduct a thorough assessment.
The forward is scheduled to undergo an MRI scan immediately upon arrival to determine the severity of his hamstring injury and outline a recovery plan.
