Exclusive: FANENDO ADI Rejects Arsenal Kiev, Volyn, Returns 'Home' To AS Trencin

Former Dynamo Kiev forward Fanendo Adi has made a sensational return to Slovakia, penning a one - year deal with FK AS Trenčín, the club he left to join Metalurh Donetsk two seasons ago.

Fanendo Adi, 21, did not leave up to his reputation in Ukraine. The ex Ajax Amsterdam trialist scored only 2 goals in 21 matches in the Ukrainian championship, not a good return for a player that was earlier tipped by pundits as one of the rising stars of Nigerian football.

''I can confirm I have left Ukraine and signed a one - year contract with AS Trenčín, only waiting to complete the paperwork. Already I have started training with Trenčín. Hopefully, by Monday or Tuesday next week, I would have concluded all the formalities,'' says Adi to allnigeriasoccer.com.

The youngster had wanted to use his move to Ukraine as a springboard to bigger things in his career. Adi has admitted that he failed to settle due to some distractions on and off the field.

''Lots of things were involved in making my decision to leave Ukraine, but the most important of them - my football was not developing as I had wanted. My dreams of playing top level football won't be realized if I remained there. I also had other distractions, the lifestyle does not suit me. In general, Ukrainian Football is not for me now, maybe later in future,'' says Adi.

Adi, who was linked with a move to French club Monaco in the winter transfer market, added: ''Clubs in Ukraine showed interest in my services. Tavriya wanted me to remain. Arsenal Kiev were also in contact as well as Volyn.''

Trenčín host Ružomberok next Saturday in the 10th round of matches in the Slovak championship. The Nigerian could make his debut in front of the club's supporters at the Mestský futbalový Stadium if his clearance arrives next week from Ukraine.

Editor
