Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed reports in the media that they are interested in bringing Nigeria-eligible striker Dominic Solanke on loan from Liverpool in the January transfer window.
Hodgson knows all about the qualities of Solanke as he scored goals aplenty for the youth teams of Chelsea as well as the Young Lions and the 21-year-old is only being kept out of the Liverpool squad by highly experienced attackers such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Crystal Palace are hoping to beat Brighton & Hove, Huddersfield Town and Rangers in the race for the signature of the Golden Ball winner of the 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup.
Speaking to reporters after The Eagles' 1-0 loss to Chelsea on Sunday, Hodgson said : ''We have got to try to make certain we can bring him on loan. It’s not a secret it’s a target.
''He is will provide an attacking threat, he has scored through the age groups at Chelsea and England and he can show he can transfer that in Premier League football.
''We know him better from his England days, it was a very good signing from Liverpool’s point of view but he is being kept out of the side by some very good players. It isn’t a criticism or negative of him.
''I don’t want to go into details, because I haven’t been doing the deal. You have to speak to Steve Parrish. He has given about the fact, but I don’t want to go into more detail.''
Since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2017, Solanke has appeared in 27 matches for Liverpool, scoring one goal, but has not figured for the Premier League pacesetters in the current season.
