Kwara United Condole Keshi, Amodu Families, NFF
Published: June 13, 2016Kwara United FC commiserate with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Nigeria football family over the death of two senior coaches, Stephen Keshi and Amodu Shuaibu.
Late Keshi, who won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations as Coach died in the early hours of Wednesday at age 54, after complaining of irregular heartbeats and pain in his legs.
He passed on before reaching the hospital, while late Amodu Shuaibu died in the early hours of Saturday in Benin, aged 58.
A release signed by the Chairman of Kwara United FC, Prince Oladimeji Ladi Thompson stated that, “We have learned with great dismay and immense sadness the passing away of African and Nigerian football legends Stephen Keshi, and Amodu Shuaibu.
“Though they are gone, their services to football have not lasted with their passing as they will always have an everlasting legacy in the game of football,” the release added.
Keshi achieved an incredible career, both as a player and as a coach, being one of only two people in African football history, along with Egypt’s Mahmoud El-Gohary, to have won the Africa Cup of Nations as both a player and as a coach.
Amodu was one of the Coaches that brought style and panache to club coaching in Nigeria.
He won the FA Cup with BCC Lions of Gboko and El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri and also guided BCC Lions to win the Africa Winners Cup now renamed CAF Confederation Cup.
Prince Oladimeji prayed God to give the families of the two fallen heroes the fortitude to bear the loss.
