10-game scoring streak ends: Trabzonspor's Onuachu fails to score for the first time since Afcon return

Paul Onuachu failed to score for the first time since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations as Trabzonspor secured a 1–0 victory over Eyüpspor on Wednesday.

The Super Eagles striker, who played a limited role for the Super Eagles during the biennial tournament in Morocco, had been in scintillating form since returning to club duty.

Prior to the Eyüpspor clash, the Nigerian forward had scored in ten consecutive matches across all competitions, registering 12 goals and providing one assist during that run.

During the impressive streak, Onuachu found the net against Kasımpaşa S.K., Antalyaspor, Samsunspor, Fenerbahçe, Gaziantep F.K., Fatih Karagümrük S.K., Kayserispor, Çaykur Rizespor., Fethiyespor and Basaksehir.

Although the Nigerian forward could not extend his run in the latest outing, Trabzonspor still secured all three points thanks to a decisive strike from Felipe Augusto at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadyumu.

According to OptaCan, Augusto and Onuachu have now become the first pair of teammates in Süper Lig history to each score at least nine away goals in a single season while representing Trabzonspor.

Augusto’s winner took his away tally to nine league goals, while Onuachu leads with 10 goals scored on the road. The Nigerian striker is also closing in on another notable milestone.

He is within reach of becoming the foreign player with the most goals in a single Süper Lig season for Trabzonspor.

The current record is held by Georgian great Shota Arveladze, who scored 25 league goals during the 1995–96 season.

Overall, Onuachu has enjoyed an outstanding campaign, registering 23 goals and two assists in 27 appearances across all competitions as Trabzonspor continue their push for a European qualification spot in the Turkish top flight.
