Ipswich Town are now obligeated to complete the permanent signing of Super Eagles hopeful Chuba Akpom following their promotion to the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Ajax monitored the final round of EFL Championship fixtures with keen interest, having inserted a purchase clause into the loan agreement that took Akpom to the Tractor Boys last summer.
The deal included a mandatory option to buy worth €9.3 million, triggered automatically upon Ipswich's promotion.
Ajax will be pleased with the outcome, given Akpom's limited contribution to the promotion campaign.
The former Championship top scorer managed just two goals and one assist in 29 appearances.
The Hale End Academy product was an unused substitute in Saturday's clash against Queens Park Rangers.
Since the start of 2026, Akpom has played only 200 minutes out of a possible 1,980 in the Championship, an indication that he is not part of the plans of manager Kieran McKenna ahead of next season.
Additionally, Akpom is yet to establish himself at Premier League level, having made only four appearances in the division during his time at Arsenal.
Although he has a contract with Ajax until the summer of 2028, the forward will now definitively continue his career in England.
