Anthony Ujah Explains Goal Drought For Cologne

Nigeria international Anthony Ujah has admitted that his lack of goals for Cologne is as a result of the manager playing him in a new position.

Ujah, 23, has not netted in his last nine matches in the 2 Bundesliga, one of his longest runs without a goal since he joined Cologne from Mainz two summers ago.

“I have been playing a new role and also been unlucky but this is a situation that comes once in a while with strikers and hopefully it’ll end soon.

“We are playing with two strikers now since Helmes came from Wolfsburg and I’m dropping behind him but that is not an excuse as I am able to come to scoring positions many times.

“We are winning and I am helping the team in many ways otherwise I will be out of the team.

“For me it’s more important to win than personal achievement though I am working hard myself,” Tony Ujah said to allnigeriasoccer.com.

Despite topping the 2 Bundesliga standings with 30 points in the kitty after 16 rounds, the Billy Goats have taken 4 out of a maximum 9 points in their last three home matches.

And Ujah has explained that as long as the team is winning matches, the statistics do not matter.

“Our away record has been better than that of our home, no doubt about that.

“But we are trying to give our home fans more happiness. We are top of the table and going into every game to win it is our priority,” he stressed.

This season, Anthony Ujah has notched up 4 goals in 16 appearances.
