Super Eagles centre-back Jordan Torunarigha has given Hamburg a timely defensive boost ahead of their Bundesliga meeting with Freiburg after being cleared to return to the squad following recovery from a head injury.
Head coach Merlin Polzin confirmed on Friday that the centre-back is once again available for selection, easing concerns that followed his early withdrawal after the 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Torunarigha had suffered a head knock during that match, which forced him to spend several days away from full team training as a precaution.
The 28-year-old has since rejoined the group and completed training sessions without setbacks, putting him back in contention for Sunday’s home fixture at the Volksparkstadion.
His return comes at a crucial point in the season, with Hamburg looking to maintain momentum in front of their supporters.
Polzin delivered a largely positive squad update, revealing that only Alexander Røssing-Lelesiit and striker Robert Glatzel remain sidelined through injury.
He also noted that Miro Muheim’s availability is still uncertain, but otherwise emphasized a near fully fit squad. “Everyone else is available,” Polzin said, as quoted by Ligainsider,
Torunarigha’s presence offers Hamburg added physical strength and composure in central defence, particularly valuable against a Freiburg side known for their structured attacking play and set-piece threat.
