'Anything is possible' - Celtic coach provides update on fitness of Iheanacho pre-Aberdeen

Manager Martin O'Neill has revealed that Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho is in contention to feature for Celtic in Wednesday's Scottish Premiership clash against Aberdeen.

The 29-year-old striker, who joined the Hoops last summer, has endured a frustrating spell on the sidelines due to recurring fitness issues.

Iheanacho recently made an appearance in the UEFA Europa League encounter against Stuttgart but was omitted from the matchday squad for the Old Firm derby against Rangers at Ibrox Stadium.

He was later spotted training in Manchester while Celtic staged a spirited comeback to secure a 2-2 draw after trailing by two goals in the first half.

Providing an update during his pre-match press conference, O'Neill admitted that the forward's match fitness remains a concern despite his qualities.

"But I think he's got a good ability to hold it up. It's just in terms of full fitness and things, that's a bit of a concern," O'Neill said via Celticway.

When asked about his availability for the Aberdeen game, he added: "It is possible. When I finish here, we've just finished the training, so I'll just go and see how people are at this minute. But yes, anything's possible. The way we played first half (against Rangers), anything is possible."

Iheanacho had made a bright start to life in Scotland, scoring twice in his opening three league appearances against Kilmarnock and Motherwell.

However, injuries have since disrupted his momentum, forcing him to miss a significant portion of the campaign.

As Celtic prepare to host Aberdeen, Iheanacho will be eager to prove his fitness and rediscover the form that marked his promising start, as he looks to repay the faith shown in him by the club's technical bench.
