Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek has provided an update on the recovery of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen following the successful surgery he underwent in Istanbul on Monday.
Osimhen sustained the injury during Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool at Anfield after a challenge with French defender Ibrahima Konaté in the first half.
Despite the knock, the Nigerian international managed to complete the opening 45 minutes before he was substituted at the start of the second half, with Leroy Sané coming on to replace him.
Speaking after visiting the forward in the hospital, Özbek provided an optimistic update on Osimhen’s condition.
"He's doing very well, he had a successful operation," Özbek said via Sabah. "Hopefully, he'll return to the field as soon as possible."
The Nigeria international is expected to be sidelined for at least one month, ruling him out of several crucial fixtures as Galatasaray continue their push for a domestic double.
During this period, the 27-year-old is set to miss league matches against Trabzonspor, Göztepe and Kocaelispor, as well as cup ties against Gençlerbirliği.
Osimhen will be targeting a comeback in time for Galatasaray’s blockbuster derby with Fenerbahçe at Rams Park on April 26.
