Victor Boniface is reportedly unhappy following his omission from the Werder Bremen squad that suffered a 3–1 defeat to Augsburg this past weekend.
Werder Bremen manager Daniel Thioune had hinted during his pre-match press conference that the Nigeria international risked being left out of the squad for the visit of Augsburg, following the return of key players Marco Friedl and Marco Grüll.
True to his indication, both players were included in the matchday squad, a decision that ultimately saw Boniface miss out entirely.
According to DeichStube, quoting Thioune, the striker was not pleased with his exclusion from the squad.
The Nigerian was expected to provide a boost for Werder Bremen in the closing stages of the season, but it has not gone according to plan, largely due to ongoing fitness concerns.
The initial expectation upon his return to the Weser Stadium in early April was that Boniface would gradually reintegrate into team training, rebuild his match sharpness, and play a key role in the club's relegation battle.
Boniface was included in the matchday squad for the first time in 2026 on April 26, but was an unused substitute in a 3-1 loss to VfB Stuttgart.
With two matches remaining in the 2025–2026 season, it remains to be seen whether Boniface will make his comeback, having last featured for the River Islanders on December 7.
