The English Football Association have joined the race for the services of talented Arsenal midfielder of Nigerian descent Chidozie Obi, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Born in the Danish town Glostrup, Obi also qualifies to represent the Golden Eaglets through his Nigerian father, Prince Obi.
The Danish Football Association (DBU) were earlier in the driving seat for Obi, having invited him to an U15 national team training camp and capped him at U16 level, but they now have competition in the form of England.
The Danish-Nigerian wonderkid has received his first call-up to the Young Lions ahead of the UEFA Development Tournament in Cyprus from February 19-26, 2023.
If selected in the matchday squad, Obi could be facing his country of birth Denmark next Sunday, after the Young Lions' matches with hosts Cyprus and Scotland.
The powerful striker has already agreed a scholarship deal at Arsenal ahead of the 2024-2025 campaign, and has made two appearances in the U18 Premier League as a schoolboy.
Another player of Nigerian descent with an Arsenal connection, Femi Fapetu, who is now at Manchester City, has also been named in the England U16 squad for the UEFA Development Tournament.
