Battle of Super Eagles: Adams nets 8th La Liga goal as Sevilla beat Lookman's Atletico Madrid

Akor Adams returned to scoring form, finding the net in Sevilla’s convincing 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in a La Liga match on Saturday evening. 

Adams was not the only Super Eagles forward on parade at the  at the Ramon Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, with Ademola Lookman entering the game as a substitute in the 71st minute, while Chidera Ejuke was an unused substitute for Los Rojiblancos. 

Adams, who is enjoying an impressive campaign, handed the hosts an early advantage after calmly converting from the penalty spot in the 10th minute. 

The Nigerian forward’s strike ended a three-game goal drought, having previously failed to score against Barcelona, Valencia, and Real Oviedo.

Atletico Madrid responded strongly and drew level late in the final ten minutes of the first half through youngster Javier Bonar. 

However, Sevilla regained control just before the break when Nemanja Gudelj fired home to restore their lead, lifting the home crowd and easing growing relegation concerns.

Sevilla continued their dominance after the break to seal all three points, with Adams playing a crucial role before being substituted for Batista Mendy in the 94th minute.

The goal takes his tally to eight league goals, along with three assists in 26 appearances this season, underlining his importance to the team’s survival push.

The Nigerian international will be encouraged by his return to form as Sevilla continue their fight to retain their La Liga status.
