Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has brushed aside recent criticism over his fitness, cutting a relaxed and upbeat figure during training with Werder Bremen on Monday.
According to German outlet Bild, the Super Eagles striker was seen humming and singing on the training pitch, displaying a carefree attitude despite ongoing scrutiny surrounding his physical condition.
The Nigeria international only recently returned to training following a knee injury but has faced growing criticism over his weight and overall fitness levels.
Former Bremen forward Aílton Gonçalves publicly questioned Boniface’s professionalism during his recovery, pointing to concerns about his physique.
However, Boniface appeared unfazed by the remarks, maintaining a lively presence throughout the session and completing drills alongside the substitutes.
His demeanor suggested a player focused on regaining match fitness rather than engaging with external criticism.
Despite his return to training, the 25-year-old is not expected to be fit in time for Bremen’s crucial North Derby clash against Hamburger SV on Saturday.
It is believed that his current fitness levels remain below the demands required for competitive action.
His likely absence will come as a setback for head coach Daniel Thioune, who is seeking a positive result in a high-stakes fixture as Bremen continue their push to secure their Bundesliga status.
