Speaking ahead of the London derby against West Ham United, England U20 international of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka has revealed that his preferred position is behind the frontline.
Against Liverpool last weekend, Chukwuemeka was handed a start by manager Mauricio Pochettino after catching the eye during pre-season preparations, where he was named in the starting lineup in all but one of the matches played by Chelsea.
The 19-year-old is capable of playing in all the midfield positions including holding midfield, attacking midfield, central midfield and as a box-to-box midfielder.
Chukwuemeka was used centrally against Liverpool, but he has suggested that he is at his best when deployed behind the frontline, off the left.
"Left eight, with a one and a two in front. I can receive the ball deep, I can drive with it, connect with the forward players, and also link up in and around the box.
"Driving past players is a big aspect of my game," Chukwuemeka told Chelsea's official website.
Enzo Fernández and new signing from Brighton & Hove Moises Caicedo could be sitting behind Chukwuemeka in today's game at the London Stadium.
The Anglo-Nigerian is aiming to start back-to-back games in the Premier League for the first time in his Chelsea career.
