Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has shed light on the difficulties he faced during his time at AC Milan, admitting that a lack of opportunities contributed significantly to his underwhelming spell in Serie A.
Chukwueze, who joined Fulham on loan last summer, struggled to make an impact in Italy, managing eight goals and six assists in 70 appearances across all competitions for the Rossoneri.
Since moving to the Premier League, however, the Nigerian international has rediscovered his spark, recording two goals and four assists in just 10 matches.
Speaking to On Sport, the 26-year-old expressed disappointment over his limited chances at Milan.
"I think I wasn't given the time I needed in Serie A and didn't have the opportunities I wanted," Chukwueze was quoted as saying by Il Milanista.
He further explained that his playing style is more suited to English football than the tactical discipline of Serie A.
"But that's what happens in football: I have to keep working hard and maybe I'll return to Serie A, or La Liga, or I'll stay in the Premier League. English tactics are probably better suited to my style of play than Italian ones," Chukwueze added.
Despite leaving the San Siro on loan, he said he still holds affection for Milan and believes they are strong contenders for the Scudetto this season.
"There are many things that make me think of Milan. If they can keep pushing hard, I think they can win. I definitely know they'll finish in the top four, because they're doing really well," he said.
Chukwueze also admitted he misses life in Milan, where his family still resides.
"Yes, I do. It's my second home. My family stayed there, so I miss fit. It's a beautiful city, but everyone has to focus on their own lives. They're doing well, and I wish them all the best, especially since I'm still a Milan player, since I'm on loan," he concluded.
Currently on international duty with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, Chukwueze featured in the Super Eagles' opening 2-1 victory over Tanzania on Tuesday.
The winger will aim to maintain his momentum and help the Super Eagles push for a crucial win against Tunisia on Saturday.
