'Did well' - Crystal Palace boss hails Uche for goalscoring display in new role

Fulham turn their attention to a massive Premier League meeting with Manchester City at Selhurst Park following their commanding 3-0 win over Shelbourne in the UEFA Conference League.

Christantus Uche underlined his readiness for a starting role with an outstanding display against the Irish side, catching the eye with his influence in attack.

More than three months after arriving from Getafe, the Nigeria international made his full Crystal Palace debut, replacing Jean-Philippe Mateta to lead the line alongside Yéremy Pino and Eddie Nketiah.

Deployed as a striker for the first time, Uche seized the opportunity by marking his performance with a goal.

Palace will also take encouragement from Uche's availability at a crucial point in the campaign, having seen him omitted from Nigeria's squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The decision ensures Oliver Glasner retains the services of the versatile midfielder during a demanding run of fixtures.

Glasner was quick to praise Uche after the Shelbourne win, highlighting the forward's smooth adaptation to an unfamiliar role.

"Justin (Devenny) played the first time as an inverted right wingback, did well," Glasner said at Friday's pre-match press conference.

"And also in the attack, Uche started his first game as a striker and did well, of course scoring a goal. We could manage all the minutes and, of course, celebrate a big win."

Since completing his deadline day move to Selhurst Park, Uche has featured from the bench in five of Palace's 12 Premier League matches, accumulating 44 minutes.

His latest performance suggests he may now be pushing strongly for a more prominent role as the season gathers momentum.
