Victor Osimhen has reportedly assured Galatasaray president president Dursun Özbek of his readiness to feature in the Intercontinental Derby between the Lion and Fenerbahce at Rams Park in Istanbul on April 26.
The Nigeria international underwent surgery this week following the injury he suffered in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match against Liverpool at Anfield.
The initial prognosis is that Osimhen will be out of action for between five to six weeks, meaning the striker will be racing against the clock to be fit for the Intercontinental Derby.
However, the former Napoli star has indicated his intention to return in time for the fixture, according to Galatasaray insider Ali Naci Küçü.
"Victor Osimhen will be on the field for the Fenerbahçe derby unless something negative happens. He himself has stated this clearly,” Küçük was quoted as saying by habersarikirmizi.
Providing further insight, the journalist disclosed Osimhen's direct message to Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek.
"Osimhen told Dursun Özbek, 'Don’t worry, President. I will be on the field, and we will be champions.'"
Prior to his spell on the sidelines, Osimhen delivered an impressive return of 26 goal contributions this term, with 19 goals and seven assists, ten of which came in the UEFA Champions League.
