Everton and Wolfsburg interested in Blackburn RB after cap-tying game for Nigeria

Premier League club Everton and Bundesliga side Wolfsburg have expressed strong interest in Blackburn Rovers right-back Ryan Alebiosu following his debut for the Super Eagles at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The 24-year-old defender featured in Nigeria’s 3-1 victory over Uganda, a match that officially cap-tied him to the country despite previously being eligible to represent England.

According to ESPN, the Premier League and Bundesliga clubs are not alone in the chase, as Serie A sides Sassuolo and Genoa are also monitoring Alebiosu  ahead of a possible move in the January transfer window.

All four clubs reportedly view the former Hale End Academy prospect as a strategic defensive reinforcement for the second half of the season.

Alebiosu has been in impressive form for Blackburn in the Championship, registering one goal in 20 league appearances.

His consistent performances earned him a call-up to the Super Eagles for AFCON, especially with Ola Aina and Benjamin Fredrick ruled out due to injuries.

However, Alebiosu’s international breakthrough was marred by an unfortunate setback, as he sustained an injury during the win over Uganda.

Reports indicate the fullback is doubtful for the remainder of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have secured qualification for the Round of 16 and are set to face Mozambique on Monday, January 5, as they push toward a quarterfinal berth in Morocco.
