'Excellent' - Young Gunner Nwaneri earns Arteta's praise for professionalism and attitude

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has commended the professionalism and attitude of young midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, despite the 18-year-old seeing limited action this season.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arteta discussed Nwaneri’s approach to training and matches.

Arteta explained that Nwaneri has consistently prepared with dedication, showing commitment in every session.

On the youngster’s attitude, he said: “[He has been] preparing in the best possible way. His attitude has been excellent," he said as quoted by BBC Sport.

The Arsenal manager also highlighted how Nwaneri has responded when given opportunities on the pitch.

Arteta stated: “And when he has got the chance to play, he has proved I am wrong.”

Addressing the question of playing time, Arteta clarified that Nwaneri deserves more minutes based on his performances. He added: “He needs to play more minutes and help the team as much as possible.”

Arteta further spoke about Nwaneri’s approach in specific situations, including requesting to feature in a friendly match. He said: “Ethan's attitude on that [asking to play in a friendly match] was excellent.”

Nwaneri, who featured regularly during Bukayo Saka’s injury absence last season, has found first-team opportunities more limited following the summer arrivals of Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke.

This season, the midfielder has started three competitive matches – two in the EFL Cup and one in the Champions League.

Most recently, Nwaneri was included on the bench for Arsenal’s Champions League win over Club Brugge and came on in the 70th minute.

His continued inclusion in matchday squads demonstrates the club’s ongoing confidence in his potential.

The young midfielder remains part of Arsenal’s plans, with his attitude and professionalism being consistently noted by the coaching staff.
