Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers delivered a stellar performance on Tuesday evening, scoring and providing an assist as Rangers defeated Viktoria Plzen 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round first leg clash at Ibrox Stadium.
Dessers, who has been linked with a move away from Ibrox Stadium, set up the opening goal and added the second just before the end of the first half.
The Nigerian international delivered a brilliant assist in the 14th minute, laying off a precise pass for winger Djeidi Gassama to fire home his third European goal in as many games.
Just before halftime, the 30-year-old striker doubled Rangers’ lead from the penalty spot.
Dessers calmly slotted the ball low into the corner, wrong-footing the goalkeeper to give the Scottish side a comfortable advantage going into the break.
Rangers maintained their momentum in the second half. Gassama continued his fine form by scoring his second of the night in the 50th minute, heading home a pinpoint cross from Finnish winger Oliver Antman.
Despite growing transfer interest, the Nigerian International showed no signs of distraction.
Making his first start of the season, Dessers will look to build on this momentum in the coming games, despite ongoing uncertainty about his future.
With less than a month remaining to the close of the summer transfer window, Rangers manager Russell Martin will be keen to resolve the future of the Super Eagles striker as he begins his rebuilding project at Ibrox Stadium.
