Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has expressed confidence and unity within the Nigerian camp ahead of Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations 2025 semi-final clash against hosts Morocco.
The defender spoke during a media interaction as Nigeria prepare for a high-profile encounter against the Atlas Lions, who will enjoy strong home support.
When asked about the team’s readiness for the semi-final, Ogbu highlighted the mood within the squad and their collective spirit.
He said, "We are ready. You can see the guys, they are happy and we are happy as family. So, we are ready."
Addressing the challenge of facing a defensively strong home side backed by a packed stadium, Ogbu maintained that Nigeria’s approach would remain unchanged.
He stated, "You should be expecting us the same way we go out with every other game. Every other game is important and we won it till this time."
Speaking further on belief and faith within the squad, the defender added, "So, we believe God is with us and we believe we can do so much more. So that's what we trusted."
On whether Morocco’s reputation as a difficult and defensively organised team could create pressure, Ogbu dismissed the idea of any special burden.
He said, "Every team is difficult. So Morocco is not different. So for we we just need to focus and that's all we we ever want."
Asked about the team’s mental, physical and spiritual preparation ahead of the game, Ogbu placed emphasis on faith as a key element.
He explained, "The spiritual part is the most important part because with God everything is possible and that's what we stand in because we are Nigerians. We always go to everywhere and we fight through to win and to become champions and that's what we're going to do."
Responding to a question about limited playing time during the tournament, Ogbu stressed the importance of the collective over individual concerns.
He said, "I don't think I'm going to feel anything. When the team is doing great, you can't say you'd feel something. You are here as a team and when you have the opportunity, you're going to help your team. the most important is what you're going to give to your team. So that's what I'm ready for."
On the reason behind Nigeria’s current form, Ogbu pointed to internal communication and leadership.
He said, "The responsibility is because we talk to ourselves and we want to win games and we want to take good leadership and that's all."
Finally, speaking on how the Super Eagles plan to handle the anticipated hostile atmosphere, he concluded, "You know the the players have been playing in top level. So this is not the first time meeting all these fans. So we're going to do great. other people."
