Atalanta head coach Raffaele Palladino has downplayed the departure of Ademola Lookman ahead of his side's Coppa Italia showdown against Juventus on Thursday, insisting the club remains well-equipped despite the Nigerian's exit.
Lookman completed a winter transfer to Atlético Madrid after an impressive spell at the Gewiss Stadium, with the deal reportedly worth €35 million plus €5 million in add-ons.
The Super Eagles forward was a key figure for the Bergamo outfit, registering 55 goals and 27 assists in 137 appearances across all competitions.
Speaking during his press conference, Palladino revealed that Lookman had received a significant offer and made it clear he wanted to take up the challenge in Spain.
"It's a dynamic that's part of today's football. Lookman received this important request, he expressed his desire to take it up, and he chose Atlético Madrid," Palladino was quoted as saying by Tutto Atalanta.
The Atalanta boss stressed that the club respected the Nigerian international's decision and was grateful for his contributions during his time in Bergamo.
Palladino added that Atalanta remained focused on the future, expressing confidence in the quality within his squad.
"We must respect his decision and thank him for what he's given. We look forward with the strong players we have at our disposal and with the desire to continue to amaze," he added.
Meanwhile, Lookman will be hoping to make his debut for Atlético Madrid when the Rojiblancos face Real Betis in the Copa del Rey on Thursday.
