Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has expressed disappointment over not having the opportunity to feature alongside his brother, Tom Dele-Bashiru, at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco.
Both brothers were initially named in Nigeria's 54-man provisional squad released in early December ahead of the biennial competition.
However, only Fisayo made the final cut, with Tom omitted from the squad that travelled to Morocco.
Fisayo, who plays his club football with Italian side Lazio, has been involved in Nigeria's campaign so far, featuring in victories against Tanzania and Uganda.
His contributions helped the Super Eagles secure maximum points in Group C and finish as group leaders with nine points.
Speaking on the situation, Fisayo admitted that missing the chance to represent Nigeria alongside his brother was disappointing, especially for their family, who had eagerly anticipated the moment.
"Of course that was something that the family was looking forward to," he told Victor Modo.
"Unfortunately he was left out of the final squad but I am sure that in the future, you guys will see us play together."
Despite the setback, the midfielder remains optimistic that both brothers will one day share the pitch in national colours, stressing that the omission has not dampened their long-term ambitions.
Nigeria will now turn their attention to the Round of 16 clash against Mozambique as they continue their quest for continental glory.
The Super Eagles will be aiming for a positive result to book a place in the quarterfinals and keep their hopes of lifting the AFCON trophy alive.
